What does SKULD mean?
The story behind our firm name
“What does SKULD even mean?” – Many have been wondering about our brand name. “Is it an abbreviation? Or did you simply make it up?”
None of the above. The story of our brand name SKULD is far more mysterious and exciting than some might assume. It all started when we started thinking about a possible name. Our team just couldn’t agree on a name when we started up with our company. So, we went on a trip to the mountains in Norway. We hiked for a whole day through the untouched and wild nature. That was pretty exhausting indeed. All along our route we were debating and brainstorming about a brand name. No idea was approved. In the evening, however, after returning to our remote cabin in the wild, we had a warm meal. Suddenly it hit us like a flash of inspiration. Why shouldn’t we make the name of a Nordic god, a mythological figure, our company name? Accordingly, we decided on the name “Skuld”. And we loved it right from the start!
Skuld, originating from an ancient Nordic language, can be translated as “guilt” or also as “future”. Skuld is one of the three Norns, alongside Urd and Verdandi, which are female divine entities who use their power to determine history (Urd), the present (Verdandi), and the future (Skuld) . SKULD is therefore the right name for our firm.
After all, our entrepreneurial attitude is primarily focused on the future. Our law firm is highly modern and future-oriented in the best possible way. We work with Legal Tech, a technical system, and run our day-to-day business completely online.

Ask veit ek standa,
heitir Yggdrasill,
hár baðmr, ausinn
hvíta auri;
þaðan koma dǫggvar,
þærs í dala falla,
stendr æ yfir, grænn,
does it ever grow.
Þaðan koma meyiar
margs vitandi
þrjár, ór þeim sal,
er und þolli stendr;
heitir Yggdrasill,
aðra Verðandi,
– skáro á skíði, –
Skuld ina þriðio;
þær lǫg lǫgðu,
þær líf kuru
alda bǫrnum,

An ash I know,
Yggdrasil its name,
With water white
is the great tree wet;
Thence come the dews
that fall in the dales,
Green by Urth’s well
does it ever grow.
Thence come the maidens,
much knowing,
Three from the dwelling
down ‘neath the tree;
Urd is one named,
the second Verdandi,
and Skuld the third.
Laws they made there,
and life allotted
To the sons of men,
and set their fates.
and set their fates.
